The Family Guy is an animated comedy series that began to air in January of 1999 on the Fox Network. It has won several industry awards, has had critical acclaim, scathing criticism, legal complications, wavering network support, and a peculiar history of being canceled and restarted.
It was announced in 2000 that the show would be canceled following the second season but that decision was withdrawn after public outcry and from renewed support within Fox. The show was produced for a third season and then ultimately was canceled outright at the end of the third season of production. Ultimately, reruns and very successful DVD sales prompted Fox to resume the show in 2004 and it completed 2 more seasons. Eventually a full length feature and two additional season were confirmed.
The show chronicles the lives and events surrounding the Griffin family of Quahog, Rhode Island. Peter and Lois, the parents of Stewie, Meg, and Chris deal with their own family situations as well as the interaction with several recurring characters including their dog, Brian, and friends Quagmire, Joe, and Cleveland.
